Who doesn\’t know Dame Shirley Bassey? In 1977, the Welsh singer received the BRIT Award for the Best British Female Solo Artist in the previous 25 years (the first of its kind as the awards ceremony was launched that year to mark the Queen\’s Silver Jubilee). And 23 years later, in 2000, Queen Elizabeth II made Bassey a Dame for services to the performing arts.
