Universal Studios Japan in Osaka has drawn over 150 million visitors since opening in March 2001, with the last 50 million coming at a faster pace than the first 100 million due partly to the introduction of new rides and attractions, park operator USJ Co. said Nov. 7.

The U.S.-originated Hollywood movie amusement park greeted its 100 millionth visitor Oct. 29, 2012, and another 50 million visitors in the following four years.

In comparison, Tokyo Disneyland amusement park attained 150 million visitors in 11 years and four months after opening in April 1983.

USJ\’s Harry Potter area, which opened in 2014 based on the popular Harry Potter film series, has proven attractive both for Japanese and foreign visitors.

USJ drew a record-high 13.9 million visitors in fiscal 2015 and hit its highest monthly figure of 1.76 million visitors last month
